Registration now open for Jackass Half Marathon

KELLOGG — Distance runners rejoice, registration is now open for the Second Jackass Half Marathon.

Last year, despite the ongoing pandemic and various restrictions the event was the exclusive major happening in Shoshone County and was incredibly well received by both the runners and those who organized it and volunteered during it.

This time around, with a basic understanding of the restrictions that come with COVID, the planning process already has a COVID-mitigation plan in place, but organizer Kelton Enich is hoping that by the time the fall event rolls around that plan won’t have to be utilized.

“At this time, we still have a COVID-mitigation plan in place that utilizes rolling start times,” Enich said. “But we will reassess with the city of Kellogg as we get closer to see if we can have a mass start.”

Like last year, Enich hopes that the finish line can coincide with Radio Brewing’s Block Party, but that is also in the hands of the city as they continue to navigate the pandemic.

Registered participants will receive a swag bag, containing a unique and personalized T-shirt or tank top from Traveling T, and a handmade finisher medal made by the Kellogg High School shop class.

Organizers are also working on a special Jackass Pass punch card that will encourage participants to go out and patronize various local businesses and offer discounts at local lodgings.

Enich also highlighted a new addition to the 2021 event.

“One fun change this year is the addition of the Kids' Half Marathon,” Enich said. “Young kids can participate by running, biking, hiking or swimming 12 miles before the race day, and then running or walking the last 1.1 miles on the actual race course.”

There is a perk for those looking to register early, and the special spring pricing will run from Feb. 8 through May 2 with the half marathon costing only $60, and the 5K $45.

The Second Jackass Half Marathon is set for Oct. 2.
