Dave Smith donation funds weekend meals for kids
KELLOGG — A generous donation from Dave Smith Motors has ensured the survival of a vital local program for the foreseeable future.
The multi-award winning car dealership donated $6,000 to the Silver Valley Snack Pak Program, which is enough money to fund the program for an entire calendar year.
The Silver Valley Snack Pak Program is based at Pinehurst Elementary School and provides 100 weekend snack paks each week to local students.
According to a release from DSM last week, “The dealership wanted to start 2021 off on a good note by helping the Silver Valley youth who might otherwise go through weekends without the nourishment that they need. The Silver Valley is lucky to have people in the community that are involved in the Snack Pak program.”
Dave Smith Motors has been making a concerted effort recently to be more involved in their local community, including specifically budgeting funds to go toward local organizations and causes.
Each month, the Snack Pak Program will receive a guaranteed $500 per month, which will allow them to purchase the specific foods for the weekend meal packs.
Food choices are specifically selected to provide healthy, child friendly, easy to prepare meals along with snacks so the students can self-serve over the weekends.
The program survives solely on funding from donations and grants, as well as the work of several dedicated volunteers who make sure the “Snack Paks” are prepared and delivered each week.
