Preferred fuelwood cutting area open on the Cd'A River Ranger District
COEUR d'ALENE — The USDA Forest Service will open a “preferred” fuelwood cutting area on the Coeur d' Alene River Ranger District from July 5 - August 31, 2021, which allows for personal firewood collection in order to reduce fuel loads in areas that are otherwise gated.
The White Beaver fuelwood area (which includes Roads 1586, 933, 957, 933F, 1586H, 1586J, and 1586C) is on the west side of Beaver Creek and accessed by Forest Road 933. These roads will be signed for fuelwood gathering. A detailed map and driving instructions for this preferred fuelwood area are available on the Idaho Panhandle National Forest homepage at www.fs.usda.gov/ipnf by selecting Firewood Gathering. The electronic map is supported by the Avenza Maps app.
Personal firewood cutting will be free to the public for the remainder of 2021, but a free, hard-copy permit is required. To obtain a hard-copy Personal Use Firewood Cutting Permit by mail, contact the Fernan Office at (208) 664-2318 or the Silver Valley Office at (208) 783-2363. Permit forms cannot be downloaded from the website at this time.
