Body of missing Kellogg man recovered
MEDIMONT — After four days of searching, the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office located the body of 45-year-old Kevin L. Walker, a Kellogg man who went missing on Saturday afternoon.
At 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, members of the KCSO Dive Rescue Team located Walker’s body relatively close to where the initial accident occurred on the Coeur d’Alene River, near Killarney Lake.
According to initial reports, on Saturday, July 10, Walker was out on the river in his boat with his wife Angie, when the two had a disagreement over the speed at which Walker was driving the boat.
His wife took the keys and threw them into the river, where both of them attempted to retrieve them.
It was during this time when Walker began to struggle in the water and call for help, prompting his wife to attempt to throw him a life jacket from the shore, but her attempt was unsuccessful and he vanished beneath the water's surface.
Walker’s wife flagged down another boater who helped attempt to locate Walker, as well as traveled to a nearby boat check station to call for help.
The circumstances of the incident are still under investigation and results from an autopsy are pending.
According to Lt. W.H. Klinkefus with the KCSO, any deaths that happen outside the supervision of a medical facility are investigated as suspicious, but Lt. Klinkefus told the News-Press that no foul-play is suspected at this time.
The KSCO would like to send condolences to Kevin’s family and friends during this time and would also like to thank those members of the public that were able to assist in helping to search for him.
