SCSO seeks info on vehicle, ATM burglaries
PINEHURST — Local law enforcement are seeking information regarding a string of burglaries that have occurred earlier this week involving stolen vehicles and ATMs.
Shoshone County Sheriff's Office Cpt. Jeff Lee explains that the most recent incident occurred in the early morning of July 14 around 3 a.m. when security cameras recorded two males breaking through the front door of the Pinehurst Super-Stop Conoco. The suspects then proceeded to steal the gas station's ATM and load it into a white GMC Sierra pickup truck that they had stolen earlier from Kellogg.
The ATM was located later Wednesday morning roughly one mile into the Bumblebee Campground on the North Fork of the Coeur d'Alene River. The pickup truck was also recovered Wednesday afternoon on Aspen Way in Kingston. The stolen truck did have a handgun inside when it was taken, but now cannot be located.
While there was no sign of the suspects, SCSO is asking the public to keep an eye out for a black Subaru Impreza with Washington plates that may still be in the area.
This burglary bears a close resemblance to another that occurred between Monday at 7 p.m. and Tuesday at 5 a.m. where a Red 2003 Chevy Blazer w/Montana plates was stolen from an apartment complex on Earle Street and used to steal another ATM from the same location.
Both the Blazer and ATM from Mullan were later recovered on Tuesday around 5 p.m. when a citizen called dispatch after locating the stolen vehicle on Country Club Road. The citizen was on his way to work at the Daybreak Canyon.
"The scene was processed and the heavily damaged stolen ATM was found nearby under timber and brush," SCSO said in a news release. "Evidence was seized for further processing."
Lee states that ATMs commonly have less than $5,000 in them at any given time.
“Based on the circumstances with the stolen vehicles and two ATMs,” he said. “There’s been other evidence that suggests the two (incidents) are linked.”
After contacting other law enforcement agencies, Lee believes that these burglars were also responsible for several incidents in Washington where the same burglary strategy was used.
SCSO is asking that anyone who may have information regarding the incidents, knows the identity of the suspect, and/or driving in the area in a black Subaru Impreza with Washington plates to contact their local law enforcement agency. SCSO can be reached by phone at 208-556-1114.
Lee asks that if you see the suspects and/or the Subaru, do not approach it and call law enforcement.
