Carolyn E. Matthews, 87

Carolyn E. Matthews of Pinehurst, Idaho, passed away June 17, 2021. She was 87 years old. Carolyn was born on March 2, 1934, in Rockford, Ill., to Roy and Atha Slover.

She moved with her family to Pinehurst in 1936 and grew up there, attending all 12 grades at Kingston. She married Lorain Gillette in 1952, and they raised three children while he served in the U.S. Air Force. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1973.

Carolyn worked for Safeco Title Insurance Co. in Ventura, Calif., from 1975 to 1995. After retiring, she moved back to Pinehurst where she resided until her death. Carolyn loved to go dancing, bowl, shoot pool and play cards with her friends.

At home she was an accomplished seamstress, liked to crochet, and enjoyed cooking for her family, especially over the holidays.

Carolyn will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Vicki Griffin. She is survived by her daughter, Jana Logsdon of Pinehurst; her son, Larry Gillette of Osburn, Idaho; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
