Character Complex update

| July 26, 2021 4:33 PM

From the Shoshone County Sheriff's Office, 7/26/2021

Due to recent fire behavior on the Deceitful fire the Beaver Creek/ Dobson area as been upgraded to Level 2 SET evacuations.

After meeting with the IMT it was also determined based on fire behavior at 6 p.m. tonight we will place barricades at the Steamboat Pond area on CDA River Road on both the new side and Old River Road. Barricades will also be placed at the Babin's Junction on CDA River Road.

Access will be denied to recreational use in this area. Local residents will be allowed access for now to their residences If fire behavior continues and falling debris starts coming down on the CDA River Road it will be closed to all traffic.

The Old River Road will be open as long as fire behavior allows. This is a single lane road and should be used only in emergency situations. Traffic control will be utilized if and when the CDA River Road is closed.

Beaver Creek Road is still open for now. If fire behavior continues in the path of Beaver Creek it is possible the IMT will recommend beaver creek road be closed as well.

Thompson Pass is currently still open but we have asked Montana DOT to inform people that CDA River Road will be closed to thru traffic to try and eliminate the large trucks from bypassing and using the CDA River corridor. Thompson Falls, Montana, is also dealing with a large fire in their area.

We have developed these population protection plans to try and give the community as much notice as possible to current fire behavior and situations. We do this to protect you.

We currently have several Complex fires in Shoshone County. We are trying to give as update information as possible on our Facebook page. Please be prepared don’t wait until the last minute.
