Edward Eugene Slusher, 86

Edward Eugene Slusher, of Rathdrum, Idaho, was born Dec. 12, 1934, in Coffeyville, Kan., to Ernest Leroy and Roma Catherine Slusher. Ed went to be with the Lord on July 21, 2021.

When Ed was a young boy, the family moved to Kellogg, Idaho. Ed graduated from Kellogg High School in 1952. He went to work as a carpenter’s apprentice at the Bunker Hill Mine.

In 1959, Ed met Betty Voyles, coming out of the door of the Kellogg Lutheran Church, and then the fireworks began!

Ed worked for a number of different companies including the Bunker Hill Mine, Sverdsten Logging, Shoshone Fire Department, Total Textile, Lakeland School District and others, in several skills.

Ed was called by Jesus to be His child in 1960.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Roma Slusher; brothers Robert and Everett; and a sister, Catherine.

Ed is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty, at their home in Rathdrum; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kelsey and Larry Ayala of Green Valley, Ariz., Lenora and Greg Meshew of Twin Lakes, Idaho, Lisa and Joel Beaudin of Missoula, Mont.; five grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren (with one more on the way); a sister, Doris Bennett of Pinehurst, Idaho; sister-in-law Joan Slusher; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ed served in his church, first in Pinehurst at Our Savior Lutheran Church and later at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Rathdrum teaching Sunday School, Bible studies and leading a youth group. Ed and Betty were very involved in Marriage Encounter as a presenting couple at Marriage Encounter weekends.

There will be a celebration of life for Ed at noon Saturday, July 31, 2021, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Rathdrum.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Ed's name to The Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church Morgage, 13541 W. Highway 53, Rathdrum, ID 83858.
