New show playing at Sixth Street
WALLACE — The show has and will go on.
Wallace’s Sixth Street Melodrama and Theatre has began its first run of 2021 with the original play “Pertie Gertie Gets Plugged, While Wallace Welcomes the Wireless.”
Starring Sixth Street veterans Charlie Briante, Tiffany Schmidt, Serenity Delgado and Drake Duce, as well as first timers Ezekial Hess and Gwyneth Faye.
Tamara Lindroos will also be bringing her considerable talents to the show behind the piano.
Duce is also directing the show, which was originally written by Sixth Street legend Paul Roberts a decade ago.
The story follows a beautiful, but clever villainess and her henchman as they disrupt the lives of the good folk who live and exist within the friendly and funny confines of Perie Gertie’s Saloon.
These folk include an eccentric scientist and his adoring daughter, as well as the handsome beau who hopes to earn her heart.
With a clever blend of hijinks, humor and heart this original show strikes all of the right chords and is fun for the entire family.
Roberts uses a ton of local influence within his script, which is incredibly apparent when you sit and watch the play.
“I like the classic melodrama time period of the late 1800s to early 1900s, and I wanted to incorporate some local history if possible,” Roberts said. “When I did some research into early radio it was easy to make some connections with the ‘crystal’ nature of some of the mining in the area. The main character, inventor Ezra Edison, has some outlandish ideas of how mankind might communicate that comically mirror the internet of today. I am not a technology expert by any means. Had I invented television, computers and the internet, it would look something like what you see in this play. I suppose I am poking fun at today's tech geeks, while still appreciating the changes they have brought us in technology over the last 125 years.”
Ed Warren is directing the musical review that follows the show.
“Pertie Gertie Gets Plugged, While Wallace Welcomes the Wireless” began its run this week and will continue through Aug. 22, with performances Wednesday through Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online or at the box office.
