No soup for you!

MULLAN — Fire crews with Shoshone County Fire District No. 1 were able to keep a fully engulfed semi-truck trailer carrying soup from causing any major problems on Sunday.

SCFD No. 1 Firefighter Noah Guinard said that crews were initially toned just before 3 p.m. out to a report of smoking/burning breaks on a semi-truck trailer that was driving westbound on Interstate 90 near milepost 65.

While they were enroute though, dispatch clarified that the trailer was now completely on fire on the side of the road. The driver of the semi managed to detach the burning trailer and move away before it spread to the vehicle.

Upon arrival, Shoshone County Sheriff's deputies had shut down westbound traffic and cleared the way for firefighters to get to work. In just under an hour, the previously raging inferno had been knocked down and the grass near the trailer that the fire had spread to had also been extinguished.

While the cause is under investigation, SCFD No. 1 suspects burning brakes to be the culprit.

Units from Mullan Volunteer Fire and Idaho State Police were also on scene and assisted.

Guinard explained that with fires like these on the open roadway, traffic and limited operating room can be challenges that you don't necessarily deal with on other types of calls.

While no injuries were reported, the entire supply of soup in the trailer was destroyed.

"This was a great example of a multi-agency response that worked quickly and effectively to get the job done," SCFD No. 1 said.
