Wardner to begin annual dog registration

WARDNER — It’s pet registration time and city pet registrar Rick Gilbert is beginning the process of getting information to the small city’s residents regarding how folks need to go about doing it.

After the city of Wardner terminated their contract with the Kellogg Police Department in October 2019, they contracted with the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Department for their primary patrol and law enforcement needs.

One of those particular enforcement orders is surrounding the registration and licensing of the small community’s dog population.

Due to this proverbial changing of the guard and without a regularly staffed City Hall, Wardner officials sought the help of a volunteer (enter Gilbert) to help the people of Wardner ensure that Wardner City Ordinance 249 is abided by.

That ordinance reads as follows: “All dogs must be vaccinated and licensed for the upcoming 12 month period.”

Gilbert will begin collecting registrations on April 27, and the registration period runs through May 7, so folks should be on the lookout for that important letter.

“If you are new to our special little city, welcome,” Gilbert said. “If you have four-legged loved ones, they will need to be vaccinated and registered according to the above noted city ordinance. The letter will include drop off location for fees, and proof of vaccination information; as well as how to receive your new tag/s and receipt from the city for payment.”

The fees for registering a pup in Wardner run $5 per neutered or spayed animal, $10 for non-altered animals, as well as a $20 kennel fee.
