Maxine E. Karst, 91
Maxine E. Karst of Pinehurst, Idaho, died Feb. 21, 2021, after a full and loving life at the age of 91. Maxine was born in Pierre, S.D., on June 20, 1929, and in 1951 she and her husband, Ernest, moved to the Silver Valley in Idaho.
Maxine was matriarch of a large family and she cherished her time with them. Maxine enjoyed making homemade gifts for her family. Maxine’s gifts included Christmas ornaments, wooden children’s rocking chairs and rocking horses for her grandkids. Maxine was an active woman who enjoyed bowling and above all dancing. She was particularly well-known for her baking and made fruit cakes, fried bread, cinnamon rolls and numerous delicious loaves of bread.
Maxine is survived by 13 children and their spouses, Janice Karst, Virginia Karst, Gloria Sahar, Patricia (and Don) Woods, Bonnie (and Jerry) Carter, John Karst, Mary (and Stan) Gilman, Rebecca (and Tom) Koehn, Laura Karst, Christina Karst, Colleen (and Johnny) Parker, Matthew (and Tina) Karst and Thomas (and Diane) Karst. She is also survived by 39 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Maxine goes to join her loving parents, George and Sophie Hunter; her sister, Rosella and her brother, Harvey; as well as her beloved husband, Ernest Karst and her second husband, Don Simpson. She also joins her sons, Robert Karst and Clifford Karst; as well as one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
Maxine will be missed by many: her family and friends; as well as her church family who she cherished in the Silver Valley. Maxine was well loved by her community in the Silver Valley.
Maxine was a devout Catholic who loved and lived her faith daily. Maxine was an active member of the Catholic Daughters and loved to serve God through acts of service to her community and reached out to those in need whenever she could.
Maxine was an example of kindness and love to her family and all who knew her.
Services for Maxine will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 19, 2021, at St. Rita’s Catholic Church, 27 Kellogg Ave., Kellogg, Idaho.
