Storm Football kicks off registration

The Kellogg Storm Junior Tackle Football Program registration opens next week for any football players from Rose Lake to Mullan.

The Storm Program fields teams from fifth grade through eighth grade.

Last year, the program was forced to cancel its season due a blend of reasons surrounding COVID-19, including lower turnout numbers and potential concerns over insurance as it applied to operating during a pandemic.

Safety has been a focus for the Storm Program and Storm Program Director Cory North has emphasized the importance of helmet safety during his time running the program.

Prior to the 2019 season, the program spent several thousand dollars to buy brand new helmets that could be fitted specifically to the individual players heads, which was a dramatic upgrade over the uncertified helmets that they had been playing with prior to buying the new ones.

It also helped the Storm Program quell one of junior tackle football’s largest concerns — concussions.

“Helmet safety is No. 1 for the Storm Program,” North said. “We want these kids to be as safe as possible so that football can be a fun, memorable experience for them.”

The Storm Program usually kicks off practices in early August, but no dates have been officially set.

Registration forms will be posted on the Kellogg Storm Football Facebook page on Monday, May 17, and those who register early will save $30 on their registration.

All players must have proof of a current sports physical.
