Central Shoshone Water District Board of Directors candidate: Andy Helkey
Andy Helkey, 44, is hoping to remain as one of the directors on the Central Shoshone Water District Board. If elected, he is looking forward to continuing to work with the water district staff and board to improve the district’s facilities, strengthen its financial position, and ensure they can continue to provide water district patrons quality water at an affordable price.
Helkey lives in Kellogg with his family and his daughter attends Kellogg High School. His education includes a Bachelors of Science in Environmental Science from the University of Idaho.
He has served on the Central Shoshone County Water District since December of 2019. From 2005 through 2020, he was employed by three Idaho Public Health Districts.
Currently, he works as the Bunker Hill Superfund Remediation Manager for the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality.
“Throughout my career in public health I have worked in several environmental programs including public drinking water system supervision, sewage disposal, land development, solid waste, food safety, daycare facilities, public pools, and vector-nuisance complaints,” he said.
He was also named Silver Valley Citizen of the year in 2019 by the Silver Valley Chamber of Commerce and is a Registered Environmental Health Specialist.
Helkey’s key issues when it comes to the position include ensuring fiscal responsibility in the water district, properly managing and planning for future expansion and maintenance, and
supporting experienced water system staff to provide safe and reliable drinking water to customers.
