HARRISON — On Oct. 2 around 9 p.m., the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a single vehicle accident in the area of Thompson Lake Road and Harlow Point Road near the city of Harrison.

Kootenai County Deputies, Eastside Fire and Harrison Ambulance responded to the scene. Once they arrived on scene, it was learned there were four occupants in the vehicle. Three of the occupants sustained non-life threatening injuries and the fourth occupant was pronounced deceased at the scene. Due to the accident being a fatality, the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Team responded and took over the investigation.

Through the investigation it was determined that Michael L. Holiman, a 70-year-old male from Harrison was the driver. He sustained some non-life threatening injuries and was treated at Kootenai Health. Nancy L. Holiman, a 69-year-old female, from Harrison died at the scene. Two other occupants, Craig M. Holiman, a 39-year-old male from Coeur d’Alene and Patricia M. Holiman, a 40-year-old female from Coeur d’Alene both suffered non-life threatening injuries and were treated at Kootenai Health for their injuries.

As a result of the investigation it was learned that the four occupants were at an Oktoberfest event in Harrison. Additionally, witnesses on scene put Michael in the driver’s seat at the time of the crash. While talking to Michael at the hospital, it was believed he had consumed alcohol, so a search warrant was requested and approved for a blood draw to determine his BAC.

Based on witness statements putting Michael in the driver’s seat at the time of the accident and that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, he was arrested for vehicular manslaughter.

Michael was treated at Kootenai Health and later released and transported to the Public Safety Building where he was booked for the manslaughter charge.

This is an active investigation and more information will be released when it becomes available.
