Glen Patrick McCurdy
Cocooned in the love of his family at his bedside, Glen Patrick McCurdy departed for the Great Beyond late Saturday night, Oct. 9, 2021.
Glen grew up in Kellogg in North Idaho, where he enjoyed small-town life and many activities and adventures with friends and family. He graduated at the top of his high school class and was proud to serve as valedictorian. He then attended the University of Idaho on an ROTC scholarship, graduating with a degree in architecture.
After college, Glen headed overseas to Japan to serve in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed in Sasebo for several years and worked as a civil engineer/Seabee, achieving the rank of lieutenant. He greatly enjoyed his time in Japan, the culture and the people he met there.
Once he returned stateside and to civilian life, Glen met Wandalene Payne at a swingin’ ‘60s cocktail party in Portland, Ore.; they married in 1966. Soon after the newlyweds headed east in their baby blue Volkswagen Beetle for Glen to attend Harvard Business School.
After completing his MBA — while incurring no debt, which he and Wanda worked hard to accomplish — Glen worked for a variety of firms as an architect, including Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. Later in his career, he and Wanda launched their own home building business in Portland. They built spec and custom projects for more than 20 years, including two beautiful homes for their family, which comprised the two of them and their only child, daughter Stephanie.
Glen and Wanda lived in Portland for more than 50 years, with brief(ish) stints in the Seattle area, Denver and Southern California. They moved to Boise in January 2019 to be closer to Stephanie and her husband, Dave Fotsch.
Glen was an avid walker for decades, clocking three to four miles several days a week until he was in his mid-70s. Until his very last years, he was a voracious reader of everything from the daily newspaper to all flavors of current fiction and non-fiction. He always maintained an interest in architecture, design, style, art and music (especially jazz and classical), as well as his great love of nature and all animals, be they pets or wildlife.
Glen’s kindness, intelligence, humanity and sense of humor defined who he was up until his very last day. He lives on forever in the cherished memories of his wife, Wanda; daughter Stephanie; son-in-law Dave Fotsch; sisters Claudia and Elaine, and their children.
Untold appreciation goes to the incredible staff at Grace Memory Care at State Street in Boise, where Glen lived, and was loved and cared for, his last several months.
We will always love you, Dad. This is only goodbye for now; we will see you again one day.
