Wallace Mayoral Candidate: Lynn Mogensen

| October 21, 2021 2:37 PM

Lynn Mogensen is seeking re-election for the position of mayor for the city of Wallace.

Mogensen, 56, is the incumbent mayor and has served one term in the position.

A Wallace High School graduate, prior to winning the mayor’s seat, Mogensen served on the Wallace City Council for 14 years and served as Wallace Planning and Zoning Commissioner for about a year prior to moving onto the city council.

She was also a part of the Wallace Stairs Committee and is a former board member of Shoshone County Search and Rescue.

Mogensen’s family has been around the Silver Valley, including Wallace, for generations.

“My late father owned and operated Mogey’s Distributing in the Silver Valley for about 15 years,” she said. “My mother is 96 and lives in Silverton. I have three sisters. I have been with my partner, Dennis O’Brien, an accountant in Wallace, for over 10 years.”

Should Mogensen get re-elected, her goals remain very close to the ones that she originally ran on in 2017.

“I will continue listening to the Wallace citizens about their concerns and vision for our town, while honoring our traditions and unique history,” Mogensen said. “I will strive to provide equal and fair treatment to all citizens. My goal is to continue to work with the city council to maintain our high quality of life here. I will work to encourage affordable housing and to keep property taxes reasonable. I will also continue to seek grants for city infrastructure projects and pool improvements.”

As a postwoman, Mogensen has been working with her constituency for years — both in and out of the political atmosphere.

She was awarded the Wallace Chamber Citizen of the Year in 2012 and is a Good Samaritan Advisory Board member.

Mogensen has been the Wallace School District Booster of the Year twice and has also coached youth T-Ball and Wallace Junior/Senior High School basketball.

Mogensen believes that the position of Wallace mayor has unique responsibilities that come with the position and that hearing from her residents is one of the most important issues associated with the role.

“My duty as a mayor is to listen to my constituents and act in the best interests of the taxpayers. I am always open to hearing proposals that could benefit Wallace, and I strive to treat all our citizens fairly and openly,” she said. “I am committed to open and transparent government by reaching decisions and conducting city activities in full view of the public. I further believe it is important to create a positive business environment while preserving our small, mountain-town character. I am also dedicated to protecting our history, community values and beautiful mountainous environment.”
