City Limits named Idaho's Small Business of the Month

“Great beer, great food, great stay,” is the motto of City Limits Brew Pub, and that is exactly what owner Mark Burmeister feels sets them apart from other Idaho restaurants.

U.S. Sen. Jim Risch couldn't agree more.

Earlier this month, Sen. Risch, the senior member of the Senate Committee of Small Business and Entrepreneurship, announced City Limits Brew Pub as the Idaho Small Business of the Month for October 2021.

It all started several months ago when members of Sen. Risch’s team came to eat at the pub. Burmeister said shortly after the group returned back to Boise, the restaurant was notified that they were being considered for the esteemed award, which requires recipients to exemplify values of hard work, entrepreneurial spirit and exceptional commitment to community.

Earlier this month, Risch announced his final selection, naming City Limits the recipient, while also announcing that the business would receive mention of its accomplishment in the Congressional Record for the U.S. Senate.

“City Limits Brew Pub is a prime example of what it means to build a small business from the ground up,” Sen. Risch wrote on his website. “What started as one man’s passion grew into a successful restaurant and brewery that serves its customers and the community.”

Although Burmeister was thrilled to be selected, he felt it was his staff that truly deserved the recognition.

“It’s a great job that they did, and that they do all the time,” Burmeister said. “Obviously, they impressed them with not only their service, but the food we provide here.”

Like many other businesses, finding employees has been a struggle for him, particularly with City Limits, as well as it’s conjoined RV park, having their busiest year yet.

“I’m appreciative of the fact that we were recognized, naturally,” he noted. “But it does say a lot about the staff we have here especially in these hard times when good staff is hard to come by.”

Sen. Risch did highlight City Limits for their quality of food, beer and lodging, but also mentioned its many popular community events, including its Oktoberfest celebration and "Welcome Back to Summer" community barbecue. He also applauded their support of many community causes, as well as their several contributions to charities over the years.

“Congratulations to City Limits Brew Pub and its employees on being the Idaho Small Business of the Month for October 2021,” Risch said. “You make our great state proud, and I look forward to your continued growth and success.”
