Myrtle June Chapman, 89

Myrtle June Chapman, 89, of Kellogg, Idaho, passed away Sept. 4, 2021, at Mountain Valley of Cascadia in Kellogg. Myrtle was born in Kooskia, Idaho, on July 7, 1932, to Fred Edward and Daphne Ellen (Dunham) Baldwin.

Following her parent’s divorce, prior to 1940, she moved to Osburn, Idaho, and was raised by Fred’s sister, Della May (Baldwin) and Harvey Renshaw and attended school in Wallace where she graduated from high school in 1950. After graduation, she then worked at Sass Jewelry in Kellogg.

She met her future husband, Ray Chapman, while taking bookkeeping classes he was teaching at the YMCA in Kellogg and she married Ray on May 12, 1951, at the American Lutheran Church in Kellogg. Myrtle continued to work at Sass Jewelry for many years before taking on several public service rolls.

Myrtle was involved with the early days of Community Action in Kellogg, served on the Idaho Arts & Humanities Council, assisted in the identification and acquisition of benefits for the widows of the Sunshine Mine fire and served many years as local registrar for North Idaho College classes in the valley. She was also a partner in an old time photo studio in Wallace and later in Kellogg.

She was preceded in death by her father, Fred Baldwin; mother Daphne Ellen Holtgrieve and husband Ray Chapman. She is survived by her only child, Richard Chapman.

In keeping with Mrytle’s wishes, cremation will take place and private services will be held at a later date.
