WALLACE – Another election day is on the horizon and Shoshone County voters certainly have some decisions to make on Nov. 2. According to the Shoshone County Clerk's Office, there are numerous contested local races on the ballot this cycle on top of state-level races as well.

Candidates, both in contested and uncontested races, are invited to contact Shoshone News-Press Managing Editor Chanse Watson to receive a candidate profile questionnaire and be featured in the Oct. 19 election edition with a profile. These free profiles focus squarely on the candidate being profiled and offer the community a chance to get to know them.

For those who cast their ballot at their local polling station, election day registration will be available for anyone who missed the registration deadline as long as they can show a picture I.D. along with proof of residence at the polls. Registration cards are available in the County Clerk’s office or at any City Clerk’s office. The last day to register to vote before the General Election is Oct. 8, 2021. Registration cards that are mailed to the courthouse must be postmarked by that date.

Photo I.D. is required to vote at the polls in Idaho. However, if a voter is not able to show a required photo I.D., they will be given the option to sign a Personal Identity Affidavit.

For those who prefer absentee voting, this may be done either by mail or in person at the courthouse. Absentee ballot applications are available from the clerk’s office at the courthouse or on line at www.idahovotes.gov.

Any registered elector may make written application to the County Clerk to have an absentee ballot mailed to them. The application must contain the elector’s name, residence address, address of where to mail the ballot, and must be personally signed by the applicant. The completed application may either be faxed to 208-752-1896, mailed to Shoshone County Elections, 700 Bank St. Suite 120, Wallace, ID 83873 or e-mailed, with the elector’s signature scanned in, to swiller@co.shoshone.id.us. Applications for an absentee ballot to be mailed must be received by the clerk’s office no later than 5:00 pm on October 22, 2021.

Absentee voting may also be done in person at the County Clerk’s office on the first floor of the courthouse between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The last day to vote absentee at the courthouse is on Friday, Oct. 29, 2021.

In the event a registered elector is unable to vote in person at their designated polling place on the day of election because an emergency situation, rendered them physically unable, they may apply for an absent elector’s ballot on the day of the election by notifying the County Clerk. However, no person shall be entitled to vote under an emergency situation unless the situation claimed rendered them physically unable to vote at their designated polling place within 96 hours prior to the closing of the polls.

Please call the County Clerk’s office at 208-752-1264 if you have any questions.

Candidates can contact the News-Press at 208-752-1120 or by emailing cwatson@shoshonenewspress.com
