Patrick Terrence Kearney, 66

| September 20, 2021 8:20 AM

Patrick Terrence Kearney was born Nov. 27, 1954, the fifth of six children born to John and Rita Dwan Kearney.

As a child, he never met a stranger and would begin a conversation with anyone who would listen. He had a sense of humor that kept the family and entire neighborhood entertained. He was a hard worker, beginning at the age of 11, getting up at 5 a.m. to pick up golf balls before school at the driving range where his older brothers worked.

He left home right after high school to become an apprentice tree trimmer, then moved to the Sierra Nevada mountains and never looked back. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Sierraville Fire Department while employed by the Truckee Tahoe Airport. A move to O’Brien, Ore., resulted in a career change that was the most fulfilling for him. Patrick took a job as a counselor at the Bar-O-Boys Ranch in Gasquet, Calif., a juvenile facility housing boys from 14-18. Being a bit of a handful himself as a teen, Patrick thought he could relate to the young men and counsel them toward making wholesome choices in life.

Patrick retired in 2015 and relocated to the Silver Valley in Idaho to be closer to his sisters. He enjoyed working around his house, playing darts with friends at The Wheel, and hanging out with his German shepherd, Rock. Patrick passed away on June 10, 2021, and Rock followed behind him a few days later.

He is survived by two brothers, John and Dennis Kearney; three sisters, Karen Henriksen, Kristine (Nick) Tonsich and Erin Kearney; and many nieces and nephews.

Shoshone Funeral Services & Crematory, Kellogg, Idaho, is entrusted with services. You may share your memories of Patrick with his family and sign his guest book at www.shoshonefuneralservice.com.
