KELLOGG GOLF

April 8

PINEHURST — The Kellogg Wildcat boys began the defense of their championship with a nice shake-the-rust-off win over Intermountain League rivals Timberlake.

Senior Archie Rauenhorst finished as the individual medalist, shooting a perfect 36 for par, while teammate Griffey Doerschel finished second with a respectable 38.

The Wildcat girls got going as well, senior Alyssa Miliron was the top female finisher with a quality 48.

As a team, the Wildcat boys beat the Tigers handily, 164-210.

Timberlake was unable to field an entire girls team, but it wouldn’t have mattered as the Lady Wildcats finished with the top four golfers on the course.

Kellogg golf has been the standard bearer for spring sports in the Panhandle, and is among the premier programs in the Silver Valley, which means that head coach Simon Miller and his crew are looking for state hardware.

“All things considered, it was very much a successful first match,” Miller said. “(We) have been eagerly anticipating getting back on the links and competing. However, the bar is set high by Kellogg High School Golf. Much work remains as the season gets to full tilt.”
