Classic cars gear up for Depot Day

WALLACE — Depot Day is live again.
After two years of holding a “No Show-Car Show,” the Northern Pacific Depot Railroad Museum (NPDRM) is overjoyed to announce that the 36th Annual Depot Day will be held in person this year. The festival and classic automobile show are set for May 7 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“The museum, and locals of Wallace are happy that we are finally able to be in person. This is the museum’s major fundraising event,” said Janet Feiler, an employee at NPDRM.
Those who attend the event can expect to see the streets of Wallace closed and filled with classic cars. Previous years of the event have had a $3 million car grace the streets of historic Wallace.
The lawn of the Depot will be filled with unique food booths and eclectic vendors, a live band, a beer garden and activities for children.
Depot Day Classic Car show regularly appoints an experienced car aficionado and judge to review each class of car entered in the show. For the past 12 years, this position has been taken by Wallace local Gary Garnsey.
“This year is special because we are going live again. The last two years because of COVID-19 were all virtual. This year, we are expecting about 300 cars or more,” Garnsey said.
This year’s vehicle competition has 16 different classes, with a first place and runner-up winner in each category. Awards also include a Best of Show and 20 outstanding award trophies on top of that. O’Reilly’s Auto Parts recently came on board as a supporter and will be giving out gift cards as prizes.
This year, Troy Hojem from Dave Smith Motors presented Garnsey with a check for $5,000 in support for the speed and custom car show.
“I want to give a thank you to Dave Smith Motors for presenting the museum with the check, and supporting this event,” Garnsey said. “We will have something for everybody. We want people to come and enjoy Wallace and look at some beautiful cars. Everybody is pretty excited.”

In-person registration will be open from 7-11 a.m. on May 7 at the Depot. Prizes will be held at 3:30 p.m.
