WALLACE — The colorful display of machinery and equipment offered to the public at Wallace's Mining Heritage Exhibition is in many cases, the first thing people see when they arrive in town off the interstate.

For years, this unique collection that showcases some of the main aspects of the Silver Valley's primary industry has complimented the Wallace Chamber Of Commerce Visitor Center as a place where people can learn and stretch their legs.

For years, the exhibition has been overseen by Executive Director, Chuck Stone, along with a board of directors. With Stone retiring last winter though, there's no clear answer as to who will take his place.

"He's just reached the point where he is burned out completely and the rest of us are pretty much to the point where we don't want to take on the executive director position," said director Jim Thomas.

Aside from a small amount of grant money that has been allocated to the executive position in the past, the board members are all volunteers and receive no compensation.

"Rewards come through the pride of presenting a first-class exhibition that is annually visited by thousands of travelers stopping at the Visitor Center, school students on field trips, and residents that bring family and friends to learn about the mining history of the Silver Valley," Stone said.

The Executive Director is responsible for planning, organizing and managing work approved by the Board of Directors. The board is responsible for maintaining and improving the exhibition.

Those interested in the role must be able to use a computer to prepare documents and email.

"The position is ideal for a retired person seeking a meaningful and rewarding part-time activity," Stone added.
