PINEHURST — The three-day Pinehurst Days festival, full of exciting activities for any age to enjoy, will kick off this weekend. The Pinehurst/Kingston Lions primarily organize the family-friendly event, which has been celebrated for 52 years.

The festivities will take place this weekend (Aug. 5-7) with unique vendors setting up at the BMX Park all three days.

Locals looking to satiate their appetite can do so at the BBQ Steak Dinner on Friday evening from 5-8 p.m. for $15.

Wrapping up Friday, Real Life Ministries will show the family film “Home on the Range” outside, so bring a chair and a blanket and enjoy a free hotdog and popcorn. The movie will be viewed outdoors on the big screen starting at 9 p.m. at 708 N. Division St.

Saturday will hold the most significant events like the Camencheros Car Show, with registration beginning at 7 a.m. at the Pinehurst Golf Course. Trophies and prizes for the car show will take place at 2:30 p.m., including a drawing and cash giveaways.

A BBQ Cook-off starts at 11 a.m. at the Tall Pine Drive-In, Kid’s Corner Games and more at Real Life Ministries from noon to 3 p.m., with the annual burnouts beginning at 7 p.m.

The Annual Pinehurst Days Parade will make its way down Division Street at 11 a.m., with sign-ups from 10-11 a.m. Anyone who wants to can participate in the parade, as bikes, ATVS, horses, etc., are encouraged.

Miranda Elam, who coordinates the burnouts with her husband Nick, explained to the News-Press of an exciting addition to the Pinehurst Days line-up.

“Something new taking place this year is that Sverwood will be playing from 2-6 p.m. at the BMX Park,” she said.

Sverwood is a local rock and roll band that has played in many Silver Valley venues.

"We are the ones that do the burnouts, so that’s what we are waiting for. The best part,” Elam said.

Registration for the burnouts takes place between 4-6 p.m. Saturday, just before the event begins.

“Once the event starts, they won’t be able to register because it’s too chaotic,” she said.

The Elams obtained triple the seating capacity because so many people have shown support in the previous years; three sets of bleachers will be set up for people to watch the main event.

The burnouts will begin at 7 p.m. at the Dike Road by Brewed Awakening in Pinehurst. Some prizes for participation include nicest/worst ride, first popped tire, longest burn, most creative ride, and more. All funds for the burnout go to driver’s prizes, volunteers, insurance and back to the city of Pinehurst.

The weekend ends Sunday with the ever-popular BMX Bike Race, with registration from 9-10 a.m. and the races beginning at 10 a.m.

“Should be a fun event for all,” Elam said.
