Radio brewery hosts benefit for injured employee

KELLOGG — Corretta Scott King once said, "the greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members."

Next week, Silver Valley residents are going to have the opportunity to rally around one of their newer members.

Steven Barron recently suffered an unfortunate and unexpected bike accident – which left him hospitalized and unable to work.

His coworkers, friends, and community members are banding together to raise money to help with the costs of getting him (quite literally) back on his feet.

Barron works at Radio Brewing Company, and it is here that there will be an Italian Dinner and Trivia benefit, with all the proceeds going towards Barron while he heals.

“The benefit was a brainchild of the taproom manager, Karen Macklin, who along with the owners, take a personal interest in the well being of Radio staff,” Diannah Fields-Brown, who also works for the brewery, explained to the News-Press. “This fundraiser is just one example of the willingness to go above and beyond to make sure their employees’ needs are met.”

Those who attend can enjoy trivia by local personality Johnny B, who will host five rounds of 10 questions each.

“There is no theme for trivia. For those who have participated in Radio trivia before, it will be true to form. Playful, and challenging,” said Fields-Brown.

As trivia is going, those in attendance can enjoy an Italian dinner, complete with a caesar salad, pasta with tomato cream sauce and meatballs, garlic bread, and a refreshing pint of Radio’s own Summer Wheat Ale.

A silent auction will also be going on in the background with specialty local items like those provided by Sarah Murphy, owner of Wallace-based flower and plant design studio Sol & Serre, who has donated a one-year flower subscription (a $420 value).

Radio Brewing has donated all of the food and the keg of their prized beer for the event.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for folks to come together, enjoy a fun-filled evening, and help out a member of the community at the same time,” Fields-Brown said.

The cover for the evening is $25 a person, and the event venue has a capacity for 100 people, so Fields-Brown is asking that people RSVP to the Facebook event: “Benefit Dinner & Trivia Night,” so that the kitchen knows how much food to prepare.

People can RSVP for the event on the Radio Brewing Company Facebook page, under their events tab, for the event on Tuesday, Aug. 16.
