A tale of two festivals
Two major festivals happened this weekend in Shoshone County, with some locals traveling the curvy trail of Dobson Pass to attend both.
In Wallace, the Huckleberry Festival was set up on the historic downtown streets and then lined with eclectic vendors, live music, and an epic 5k race.
"I feel like Huckleberry Festival went really well," said Emma Stayduhar, the relentless leader of the event. "We had an awesome turnout."
The 5k Race had around 328 racers register, with 300 showing up the day to race.
"That's above and beyond what we could have hoped for," said Stayduhar.
The overall winner of the 5k was Griffen Parsells of Lewiston, who finished at 16:31, followed closely by 36-year-old Kellogg local Eli Bourgard coming in at 19:45.
12-year-old Kendall Murray from Mullan impressively won the Top Overall Female category coming in at 21:17, with Kelton Enich, 29, from Kellogg, coming in at 22:02.
"This couldn't happen without the community. We had people lined up on King Street handing out waters, with some handing out Pina Colada's and Mimosas. I had some great volunteers, and everything went really smoothly."
The community also came into play on Friday night; as windstorms caused vendor tents and supplies to fly.
"The community just really pulled together. People came out of the bars to help, bartenders, the cops came down and helped. Everybody really pitched in to help."
About 24 miles north, the town of Murray was holding a festival of its own. Molly B' Damn Days took place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with a parade, live music, bounce house, and the Dennis Funke Car Show.
Hundreds of spectators made their way to the former gold rush community to take in all of the sights and sounds of the Wild West come to life.
Classic cars lined the streets of Murray, along with vendors selling various merchandise and various BBQ options provided by the Sprag Pole and Goldmine Bar.
"We are so excited that we had the opportunity to celebrate Molly B'Damn Days this weekend," said the owner of the Sprag Pole, Kippie Corta.
Molly B' Damn days is celebrated in the town of Murray to celebrate the legendary pioneer madame.
Both festivals annually fall on the third weekend in August.
