Richard 'Rick' Field, 66

| August 29, 2022 11:50 AM

Richard “Rick” Field of Kingston, Idaho, sadly left us on Aug. 20, 2022, in Spokane. Rick was known for his kindness, giving spirit and sense of humor.

Rick started his career in 1986 with the Kellogg Police Department as a dispatcher and then later moved to patrol with Kellogg. In 1989, he decided to further his career by joining the Idaho State Police as a Shoshone resident. He was later promoted to Sergeant in District One. During his time, he entertained the public with his ventriloquist skills and his buddy named “Crash.” Rick spent his free time acting as a positive influence to local youth, teaching them important survival skills.

During his career, he was known for his passion to help not only the public he served, but the peers he served along. He spent several years as a Field Training Officer and was later promoted to Sergeant where he left a legacy of professionalism, service and laughter. He was the type of Trooper whose name would be echoed and remembered long after he left ISP.

In 2012, he made the decision to retire from ISP as a Sergeant. Shortly after retiring, he became the safety manager for Jack Buell trucking, where he went on to make another family with the people he was hired to keep safe. While his passion was for helping others in a variety of different ways, Rick’s family was the center of his world. He made sure he stayed in touch with his family members and close friends. He was the type of man to drop everything to support his family. He would go out of his way to go get a coffee with a friend he hadn’t seen in a while, or deliver a silly gift to one of his children at work.

Rick’s spirit not only belonged to his beloved family, but to the great outdoors. He enjoyed spending his free time hiking, camping, fishing and just enjoying beautiful North Idaho.

So very beloved, Rick leaves behind his wife of 15 years, Cathy; his daughter, Charity; his two grandsons, Colter and Damon; his stepchildren, Leon, Melanie and Stephanie; and his sisters, Sherrie and Wendy. He was also loved by the huge extended family he created.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2022, at Yates Funeral Home — Hayden Chapel, 373 E. Hayden Ave., Hayden, Idaho, where we will celebrate Rick’s amazing life and the contributions he made to all of our lives. A reception will immediately follow the service which will be potluck style. We would love for everyone to stay and share their stories and favorite moments with Rick. Please feel free to bring your favorite dish to share.
