VIDEO: Near record temperatures cap off August

As we finish up a record breaking August, the final day may be close to 100 degrees locally, making for one of the hottest days this month! Heat Advisories are in effect until 8 p.m. today.

Thursday and Friday are looking hot too with highs in the mid to upper 90s.

The record high in Spokane for Wednesday, August 31 is 100° - which is also the latest 100-degree day on record. The record for Friday, September 2 is 97°.

There may be a chance for isolated mountain showers or storms Wednesday evening for northeastern Washington and North Idaho. There's a little activity over the Cascades, signaling this during the morning hours. Any rain would be minimal, but locations from Bonners Ferry to Wallace have the best chance to see these showers in the vicinity after 6 p.m. tonight.

August is going to be one for the record books. Through the 30th, the average temperature in Spokane has been 75.9 degrees. That is almost 6 degrees above normal and beating the long-standing record warmest August, 75.2 degrees back in 1915.
