| December 23, 2022 11:58 AM

It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Joan, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was born on July 11, 1927, in Lewiston, Idaho, and passed away Dec. 8, 2022, in Spokane, Wash. She lived an amazing 95 years.

Joan was raised and educated in Genesee, Idaho. She was the fifth of six children of Leo and Margaret (Kane) Edwards. She had many fond memories of her childhood, family and lifelong friends from Genesee. She graduated from Lewis Clark Normal College in Lewiston. Joan began her 25+ year teaching career in Burke, Idaho, then the Kellogg School District, and ended her teaching career at the Opportunity School in Silverton. She moved to Kellogg in 1948 where she met and married her husband, Marvin "Marv," in 1949. She lived in Kellogg for 53 years and they raised three children, Sandy, Marc and Sally. Joan and Marv retired in Kellogg and later moved to Post Falls in 2001.

She was an avid bridge player, traveled extensively and enjoyed time at their lake cabin on Lake Coeur d’Alene. She painted gifts for her friends and family and crafted beautiful Ming trees. Family was her lifelong priority. Both Joan “Net” and Marv “Papa” had a big influence on all of their grandchildren and attended as many of their events as possible. She continued this dedication with her great-grandchildren. Her mind was clear to the end, and she shared family memories and history with all of her extended family until her passing.

Joan was predeceased by her parents; husband Marv in 2008; and all five of her siblings, Bill, Helen, Leona, Tom and Sally. She was the last family member of her generation. Joan was a loving mother and is survived by their three children, Sandy (Spence) Dragstedt of Spokane, Marc (Debbie) Dorendorf of Spokane and Sally (Paul) Potter of Ketchikan, Alaska; seven grandchildren, Jackie (Jim), Shadra (Jared), Andrea (Darin), Carrie (James), Tara (Ryan), Mitch (Devin) and Ellie (Will); and 13 great-grandchildren, Sam, Madison, Paris, Sienna, Hadley, Sydney, Kaylee, Annabelle, Thomas, Max, Jack, Henry and Harper; plus numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank and acknowledge the loving care provided by Vanesa, Nellie and others with CenterWell Home Health; Laura, Salina, Scott and others with Kindred/Gentiva Hospice; and Heather with English Funeral Chapels. Joan will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she touched. She and Marv rest together at Greenwood Cemetery in Kellogg, along with numerous other family members and friends. May they all rest in peace.

A memorial service will be held this spring at a time and place to be determined. If so inclined, donations can be made to the charity or organization of your choice or, perhaps perform any act of kindness in her honor.
