KSD extends application period for school board vacancy
KELLOGG — The Board of Trustees for Kellogg Joint School District No. 391 extended the application period for a vacancy for the Zone 1 Trustee position at Tuesday’s board meeting. The seat, which was previously held by Todd Sheppard, was declared vacant at the Jan. 12 regular meeting after Sheppard chose not to run for re-election in November 2021.
The original deadline for eligible applications was Friday, Jan. 28 at noon. At the time of the deadline, one fully completed application had been received but the applicant resides outside Zone 1. An additional incomplete application was also received.
Under Idaho Code, the District has 90 days from the time the vacancy is declared to fill the seat from within the declared zone. If there are no eligible applications from within the zone before the 90-day deadline, applications from outside the zone may be considered. After discussion, the Board of Trustees made the decision to extend the deadline another two weeks.
The Board of Trustees asks any eligible member interested in applying for the open trustee position to submit an application by Friday, Feb. 25 at noon. In order to apply, members must fill out an application on the KSD website. Directions to apply can be found at kelloggschools.org/hr. Please note that the application must include:
• Letter of Interest that includes:
• Contact information: telephone number, email and residential address.
• A statement about your background.
• The main reasons for applying for the trustee position.
• Your top three objectives if appointed to the position.
• Affiliation(s) with the District e.g. PTA, School Volunteer, Past or Present Committee Participation, etc.
• Resume
Board member eligibility requires the candidate to be a registered voter in the school district with residency in the zone that he or she represents.
The Zone 1 trustee represents the areas of south Kellogg/Warder and the eastern areas of Elizabeth Park, Big Creek, Elk Creek and Moon Gulch on the north side of I-90. A map and legal description of the zone can be found on the district website at www.kelloggschools.org under the School Board tab.
The Board of Trustees will review all applications and may appoint a candidate at a public meeting that will be scheduled in March. The meeting will take place at the Kellogg School District Office, 800 Bunker Ave., Kellogg.
