Shoshone Elections Office releases May 2022 Primary Election information

The Primary Election will be held on May 17. Candidates for county offices must file a Declaration of Candidacy with the County Clerk. The filing period for all candidates, including Independents, is Feb. 28 through March 11 at 5 p.m. The following is a list of qualifications for the county positions on the ballot:

COUNTY COMMISSIONER — DISTRICT No. 2 — 4-year term

Represents Smelterville, Pinehurst and Kingston

COUNTY COMMISSIONER — DISTRICT No. 3 — 2-year term

Represents Murray, Mullan, Wallace, Silverton, East Osburn, Calder, Clarkia and Avery

Qualifications for County Commissioner:

Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of the General Election, a citizen of the United States, and shall have resided in the county one year next preceding the General Election and in the district he or she represents for a period of 90 days next preceding the Primary Election.

COUNTY CLERK, COUNTY ASSESSOR, COUNTY TREASURER, AND COUNTY CORONER — All 4 year terms

Qualifications for County Clerk, Treasurer, Assessor and Coroner:

Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of the General Election, a citizen of the United States, and shall have resided in the county one year next preceding the General Election.

PRECINCT COMMITTEEMAN — 2-year term

A precinct committeeman for each political party shall be elected in every voting precinct within the county.

Qualifications for Precinct Committeeman:

Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of the Primary Election, a citizen of the United States, a registered elector of and shall have resided in the voting precinct for a period of six (6) months next preceding the Primary Election.

Declaration of Candidacy forms may be picked up in the Clerk’s office on the first floor of the courthouse, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Anyone declaring themselves a candidate for the above offices, (other than precinct committeeman), must file an “Appointment and Certification of Political Treasurer” form, which is also available in the Clerk’s office.
