Forest Service seeking volunteer hosts at Red Ives Cabin
The St. Joe Ranger District of the Idaho Panhandle National Forests is looking for a motivated individual, or couple, to be host at the historic Red Ives Ranger Station this season.
Located on the St. Joe River, and in the heart of the Wild and Scenic River corridor, Red Ives Cabin is one of the most popular rental facilities on the Idaho Panhandle National Forests. The two-bedroom cabin served as a ranger’s living quarters for the Red Ives Ranger District of the St. Joe National Forest from the 1930s to 1984. It is located 86 miles southeast of St. Maries on Forest Road 218.
Host duties include greeting guests, maintaining lawns and landscaping, assisting with facilities maintenance, providing information and brochures to visitors, assisting the recreation crew with routine duties in the adjacent campgrounds, and assisting with feeding and/or care of the St. Joe Ranger District pack string.
Host hours and days are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Hosts will live on site and must furnish their own camper or RV under 40 feet in length. Hook-ups are available for water and sewer. Season dates are from mid-May to mid-October.
