KELLOGG WRESTLING

Dec. 30

ST. MARIES — The Wildcat grapplers had a solid showing during the Chad E. Ross Memorial Tournament at St. Maries High School.

After taking a few days off for Christmas, it was back to the grind for Kellogg – who, despite not having a champion during the tournament, found themselves regulars at the podium as the tournament wrapped up.

Chase Morden (98 lbs.) and Carter Stepro (145 lbs.) were the top finishers for Kellogg, grabbing second place in their respective weight classes, meanwhile Colby Lemmon (120 lbs.), Tanner Williams (132 lbs.), Raymond Heely (138 lbs.), and Ethan Guy (145 lbs.) all finished third.

“We went 26-18 on the day so it was a solid day of wrestling for our guys,” Kellogg head coach Scott Miller said. “I'm pleased with the number of placewinners we had and the way they grinded out wins during the day. Coming back from a short break for Christmas we weren't sure what to expect but on the whole we wrestled well.”

Kellogg will host Sandpoint this week before heading to Ronan, MT., for the Ronan Invitational this weekend.

LEWISTON — Kolby Luna scored 17 points for Kellogg in a loss to Lapwai in the opening round of the Avista Winter Classic at Lewis-Clark State College.

“That’s a good basketball team,” Kellogg coach Mike Martin said. “We played too passive and weren’t physical enough on the glass and they beat us up pretty good. We cut the lead to single-digits in the fourth quarter, but kind of emptied the tank and we didn’t have enough to get over the top.”

Luke Miller and Tanner Groves scored eight points each for Kellogg.

Kase Wynott scored 27 points for Lapwai.

LEWISTON — The Gators of Tacoma, Wash., forced 20 turnovers and scored 22 points off 19 offensive rebounds to beat the Wildcats in a consolation game in the Avista Winter Classic at Lewis-Clark State College.

“You can’t do that kind of stuff against anybody and expect to win,” Kellogg coach Mike Martin said. “Especially a team as good as that. We just couldn’t get a stop late to make it a two possession game.”

Kolby Luna had 23 points, six rebounds and four assists, Riply Luna 22 points and Tanner Groves 10 points and four steals for Kellogg.
