Kellogg Public Library celebrates 20 years of Harry Potter
KELLOGG — Potterheads of all ages gathered at the Kellogg Public Library Monday night for an evening of sorcery and magic for the “Harry Potter 20th Anniversary Trivia Night and Costume Contest.”
Danae Johnson, youth services director at the library, said the event was a monumental moment for staff and community members alike, as it marked the library’s first large gathering since authorities approved such events back in August of 2021.
Johnson said that while technically the anniversary of the first Harry Potter movie was last year, with the excitement of the new HBO special ‘Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts,' she felt like the timing was right to hit the franchise with a little lumos maxima and bring as many muggles back into its magical world as possible.
“This is a huge milestone for Harry Potter, but also we wanted to get more people coming in, seeing our set up and getting interested in being back in the library,” Johnson said. “That was kind of the whole idea behind this. As a huge Harry Potter fan, this was really fun for me to put together.”
The night started in a Hogwarts themed room with a costume contest, where all in attendance voted for the best adult and child Potter-themed outfit. Guests then put their wizarding knowledge to the test during a game of trivia, with prizes given to both the highest scoring child and adult.
“We’ll be making bookmarks and potion bottle ornaments on Wednesday,” Johnson explained. “Then on Friday, we will take a quiz that selects your house for you and then we will make the Butterbeer, which of course is non-alcoholic, so everyone can enjoy it.”
The magic will continue at the Kellogg Public Library throughout the week with more family fun happening on Wednesday and Friday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
