PINEHURST — No matter your age, it’s important to stay healthy.

Shoshone Medical Center (SMC) recently held an Annual Blood Draw and Senior Health Fair to promote health and wellness for those residents in the Silver Valley who have crossed the half-century mark and to provide information and education on resources and activities available within the community. The event came as part of a large number of free health screenings which included blood screenings that were done prior to the fair. Blood pressures were also checked at both events.

The Senior Blood Draw had 92 seniors show up and take part in the free senior blood tests.

The health fair itself had seven internal SMC vendors and 16 external exhibitors at the Senior Health Fair, ranging from In-Home Health care, Senior Companion Programs, Senior Activities, all the way to Alzheimer's Resources, and had 88 people in attendance.

Hospital board member Carol Roberts, who served mock mimosas and mock margaritas to the event-goers was excited to see the room filled.

“People were excited to be out, seeing people and having an event that they could participate in again. Both the seniors and vendors. Overall, it was a steady flow of people and the room was pretty full.”

SMC Administrative Assistant Cendra Graham explained that this event was scheduled to be back in person after last year’s event was called off due to the pandemic and also extended thanks to those who made this event happen.

“Thank you to all of those who participated and thank you to the SMC staff and exhibitors who made the event happen. And a special thank you to our event sponsors — SMC Foundation, Access Care at Home, and Kohal Pharmacy for supporting this event to promote health and wellness throughout our community.”

Looking toward the future, SMC will have a Free Sports Physical Day on July 27. This will be for those students that need physicals to participate in school sports. The school will provide the sports physical form that has to be signed by a parent or guardian.

The Flu Clinic will be held on Oct. 15 and 22, distributing pediatric, adult and high-dose vaccines. The clinic will be for all ages.
