BOISE — The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) today announced the award of $500,000 in drinking water construction assistance to the city of St. Maries in Benewah County.

The funding will be used to replace lead water piping.

This loan from DEQ’s State Revolving Loan Fund, which is capitalized annually by grants from the US Environmental Protection Agency, provides this funding with no repayment obligation.

The favorable assistance terms represent $782,515 in savings to the community when compared to the average costs for municipal general obligation debt issuances.
