COEUR D’ALENE –– The suffragette statue near the parking area of McEuen Park was vandalized in the early hours of Friday morning.

According to multiple reports the statue was defaced around 3:50 a.m., using bright yellow paint which covered the face of the statue, a yellow X over the sign she is holding, and the word BETA MALES on the sidewalk near the base of the statue.

The graffiti has since been cleaned up, however the Coeur d’Alene Downtown Association is now offering a $1,000 reward for any tips that lead to the arrest of the vandal.

The term “beta male” commonly refer to men who are perceived as effeminate, passive or weak.

March is Women’s History Month – which makes the vandalism of a statue of a woman actively protesting for the right to vote seem exceptionally targeted – however, damage to property doesn’t fall under the State of Idaho’s nor the Federal Government’s definition of a hate crime.

Please call 208-769-2320 or 208-769-2296 with tips, or text the keyword “CDAPDTIPS” with suspect information to 847-411.

The Press will continue to follow and monitor this developing story.
