WALLACE — Stepping into a new position has been a seamless transition for the new Shoshone County treasurer, Karey Eddy, who was appointed and sworn in by the Shoshone Board of County Commissioners last week.

The Shoshone County Treasurer’s Office has employed Eddy for 18 years, and since 2016 she has served as Chief Deputy Treasurer, which includes taking on full responsibilities in the treasurer’s absence.

“My new position brings on more responsibilities but with my past 18 years of experience I have learned and performed the duties of the Treasurer, which will make my transition seamless,” Eddy said. “After Ellen Masterson announced that she had plans to retire and not run again, I chose to run because I absolutely love my job.”

Eddy and her husband Willie currently reside in Osburn, and she is a fourth-generation Idaho native born in Shoshone County, raised in Mullan, and graduating from Mullan High School.

She has a vast knowledge of the county’s treasury, and has also taken and passed numerous courses to help qualify her for the position.

“Some of the most important things I’ve learned and follow every day is to have good working relationships with coworkers and fellow elected officials,” Eddy explained. “I want to continue to operate with the good of the county and our residents and taxpayers in mind, and to give the same professional knowledgeable and friendly customer service that the Treasurer’s Office has always provided. It’s important for me to continue to stay compliant with the Idaho code and continue and keep our excellent record of accuracy.”

Eddy explains that her top priorities as treasurer would continue to be, “the professional, knowledgeable and friendly customer service; the excellent record of accuracy in the Treasurer’s office with all outside audits; the investment of the county’s monies for the best yield on interest along with maintaining liquidity and safety; maintaining and reconciling of 31 different bank accounts along with balancing with the Clerk’s General Ledger funds.”

The mission of the Treasure’s Office is to uphold the integrity of the duties as directed by Idaho Code, continually working to find innovative ways to assist taxpayers and to provide taxpayer information to citizens of Shoshone County.

“I look forward to a long future of serving Shoshone County as the Treasurer.”
