11th annual TaTa's Party this Saturday
WALLACE — The 11th annual TaTa’s Party, a fundraiser for community members battling cancer, is taking place this Saturday at the upstairs of the Wallace Elks.
The idea for the party came from a small get-together with friends and has grown into a major fundraising event for the Shoshone Cancer Resource Center.
“I used to have a shop in Wallace called ‘A Hint of Whimsy,’ and my next-door neighbor was ‘The Desperate Diva.’ Her sister was diagnosed with breast cancer,” said organizer Aubrey Stovern. “We decided to do a fun little ladies’ night, have some wine, a little party. And it grew from there. Now we are upstairs at the Elks!”
The fundraiser began gaining popularity as more community members began attending, eventually becoming a full-blown event with beer, wine and a live auction. Creativity comes into play, as community members decorate and embellish bras, wreaths, pumpkins and gift baskets that are all auctioned off.
“At that first party, we started decorating the bras and auctioning them off with the idea of whatever we raise, we raise. Then someone made a wreath, and then about seven or eight years later someone decorated a topiary of pumpkins, so that began as well. It started from such humble beginnings and has grown into something incredible.”
If you have a gift basket, bra, wreath, pumpkin, or would like to make a monetary donation, you can do so at Kellogg and Pinehurst Stovern Supply Co. locations, B&C Salon in Osburn, or Pressed on Pine in Wallace.
The 11th annual TaTa's Party will take place this Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Wallace Elks Lodge No. 331, with the social hour beginning at 5 p.m. and the live auction starting at 6 p.m. All money raised will go to support residents of the Silver Valley with their fight against cancer by going to the Shoshone Cancer Resource Center, a 501c3 nonprofit.
