OSBURN — Avid readers, rejoice!

Lion’s Park in Osburn will soon be the location of a Little Free Library book exchange box, thanks to a generous donation from a local Osburn resident.

The Little Free Library is a free book-sharing box where anyone may take a book or share a book. The free library functions on the honor system, but you do not need to share a book to take one.

If you take a book or two from the library, try to bring some to share to that same library, or another in your area, where you can.

“We are calling on our community members to help keep books straightened up, restocked and keep the library safe from vandalism,” said Lions Park Committee leader Jenna Grant-Arthun.

There are a handful of little libraries in the Silver Valley, sprinkled in residential areas, for locals to exchange their books.

“We received some books donated by Idaho Commission for Libraries,” Osburn Library director Jamee Sperry told the News-Press. “They have a program that sends out a certain number of books for programs like this for outreach. So I have books for small children, elementary children and youth.”

Sperry explained that a local family recently donated books from their father, who passed away and was an avid reader.

“They brought quite a few great books, so I’m going to put some of those in as well. There will be books for all ages.”

Community members can contribute or take books, and it’s important to note that if you take a book, you don’t need to return that same book. But to keep the little library versatile and well-stocked, bring a few books to share next time you swing by.

“I want to remind Osburn residents that they are eligible for free library cards. If they enjoy reading, they can come to the library where we have a great selection of books. We can also get books from over 20 different libraries. We are so excited for community members to use the little library, but if you read all the books provided or want a bigger selection, we can help you out.”
