George Edward White, 86

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, George Edward White, 86, of Kingston, Idaho, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on Oct. 25, 2022, at Shoshone Medical Center in Kellogg, Idaho. He was born April 24, 1936, in Kellogg. George was the son of Guy and Laura (Marshall) White.

George has lived in the Silver Valley all of his life; Kellogg was his beloved home. He attended Kellogg High School, where he excelled in athletics; George was a member of the first Kellogg High School Basketball team to win the State Championship. He graduated in the class of 1955.

George married Joanne Duran on Dec. 30, 1956, at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Kellogg.

George had first worked at the Bunker Hill Mining Company in instrumentation for 20 years. He then was part owner of KWAL Radio for 40 years, until the age of 80. George and Paul Robinson also had owned and operated Fred’s Restaurant and Bar in Kellogg for several years.

George was a member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Kellogg, an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Kellogg Rotary Club for many years. He refereed many high school basketball games throughout the Silver Valley, as well as, many district and state tournaments. George was a member of the North Idaho Officials Association. He also served as an announcer for many football and basketball games.

George loved and enjoyed his family, woodworking and was an avid sports fan.

George is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Joanne White of the family home in Kingston; three children, Mitch White (Kristi) of Vancouver, Wash., Kim White of Washington and Renee Newburn (Ray) of Kingston; seven grandchildren, Jessica Sager, Jared Nielsen, Holland Lapp, Jake Newburn, Tristan Nielsen, Alex Green and Gabi White; numerous great-grandchildren; and he is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his parents and 11 siblings.

A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 4, 2022, at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Kellogg, with Father Jerome Montez serving as Celebrant. A reception/luncheon will be held at the Church Fellowship Hall following services.

The family suggests memorials may be made to the Kellogg High School Athletic Department, 2 Jacobs Gulch Road, Kellogg, ID 83837.

George was such a great supporter of Silver Valley sports and our community. He was loved by his family and many, many friends; he never met a stranger. George will be greatly missed.
