CANDIDATE PROFILE – (D) Rick Smith, Coroner
Rick Smith is seeking re-election to the position of Shoshone County Coroner.
Smith, the incumbent, is running against registered write-in opponent Nicholas Elam in the upcoming General Election.
Smith is a graduate of Mullan High School, completed North Idaho College’s law enforcement program as well as Idaho County Coroner’s Association training.
Smith and his wife, Kristie, have two children and two grandchildren.
Smith has an extensive background in the industry with more than two decades of experience.
“I’ve been a deputy coroner for 20-plus years before taking over the coroner’s office five years ago,” Smith said. “I have 30 years in law enforcement as patrol, jail and before retirement was the jail administrator for 16 years. I worked for Shoshone Funeral Service for three years. With the education and experience I have as coroner and my past law enforcement training in investigation I will continue to provide the best investigation to each case I have.”
Smith believes that the deaths of younger people due to drug use are among the top priorities for the office of coroner and plans to tackle that if he is re-elected.
“I would like to thank all of the citizens of Shoshone County for giving me the chance to be your coroner and would ask that you continue to support my efforts as coroner, by voting for me,” Smith said. “I feel a coroner needs to be someone who has the education, experience and dedication to serve you as your coroner.”
