WALLACE — This weekend locals and tourists will be able to find everything under the sun (without having to actually be under the sun, ironically), under the I-90 freeway in the historic town of Wallace.

Last year, over 10,000 people flocked to the quaint town to visit the annual Under the Freeway Flea Market, and this year is expected to be no different.

Northern Pacific Railroad Depot Museum (NPRDM) Director Cindy Browning Lien is at the market's helm this year and is excited to see the eclectic vendors lined up underneath the viaduct of the freeway.

“The Flea Market has 110 vendors signed up for this weekend. We have everything from antiques, vintage clothing, garage sale items, crafts and more. Everything under the sun,” said Lien.

Local vendors will peddle their wares, as well as traveling vendors from neighboring states like Washington, Oregon, and many from Montana.

The market spans about a mile, with the sellers also setting up on the lawn of the NPRDM. Food and beverage vendors will also be around to fuel shoppers as they browse the unique booths.

“This brings 10,000-plus people to Wallace over the three days. All of the businesses are full and busy as well as restaurants. Everyone who wants to be busy will be, which is always a great aspect of the market,” said Lien.

The Under the Freeway Flea Market is hosted by the NPRDM, acting as the main fundraiser for the museum. The museum itself takes you back in time, when railroads were the primary transportation for both people and goods. The building itself was constructed in 1901, moved to its current location in 1986, due to the construction of the freeway.

The Flea Market will take place Sept. 3-5. Saturday and Sunday the market will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m and Monday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 219 Sixth St. in Wallace.
