Longstreet, Bopp replace Posnick as District 1 basketball commissioner

Rayna Longstreet and Bill Bopp have been named interim basketball commissioners for high school basketball in District 1 for the 2022-23 school year.

With the basketball season only weeks away from starting, the District 1 board of control voted Tuesday to appoint Longstreet and Bopp to replace longtime basketball commissioner John Posnick, who resigned recently.

Among the commissioner’s duties is assigning officials to games from high school level down to the freshman level.

A search for a permanent basketball commissioner, beginning with the 2023-24 season, is underway. Anyone interested is asked to call Larry Schwenke, secretary of the District 1 board of control, at (208)929-0296.

A preseason clinic for officials and coaches is scheduled for Oct. 24 at Coeur d’Alene High in the team room, located in the former balcony at Elmer Jordan Court. The officials’ clinic is at 6:30 p.m., followed by the clinic for coaches and officials at 7.
