Gordon Johnson, 88
Gordon Vance Johnson, 88, of Kellogg, Idaho, passed away March 31, 2023, at his home. Gordon was born on Feb. 3, 1935, in Everett, Wash., a son of the late Fay and Dasha Johnson.
After graduating from high school in Everett, Wash., Gordon enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was honorably discharged four years later after being stationed in Ft. Mason in San Francisco, Calif. Gordon met the love of his life, Betty Beringer, and the two married on July 22, 1955, in Everett, Wash. Betty passed away in 2016. They had three children, Jackie, Christie and Rick. The couple moved to Post Falls in 1970 where they started the first girls fast pitch softball league in North Idaho. They moved over to the Silver Valley in 1987.
Gordon was an ambulance driver in Los Angeles, Calif., a police officer in Post Falls, Idaho, and he also layed fiber optic wire all around the Pacific Northwest. He enjoyed softball, and had a fascination with eagles, of which he had a large collection of all things eagle.
In addition to his parents, and beloved wife, Betty, Gordon is preceded in death by his son, Rick, who passed away in 2022.
Survivors include his two daughters, Jackie (Roger) Williams of Spokane Valley, Wash., and Christine Johnson of Kellogg; three grandchildren, Jennifer and Kim Williams of Spokane Valley, and Sara Manos of Puyallup, Wash.; four great-grandchildren, Dylan Williams, Baylee Bippes, Logan Bippes-Williams and Bridget Manos.
A celebration of Gordon’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Shoshone Funeral Services, 106 S. Main St., Kellogg. Light refreshments will be provided.
