KINGSTON — The Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a burglary and theft that happened at Base Camp Coffee in Kingston early Thursday morning.

Around 4 a.m., an intruder broke in through the back door of the small coffee shop, which is located just off the westbound I-90 offramp.

Wearing a black Las Vegas Raiders hooded sweatshirt and a baseball cap, the thief made off with the front register and the $60 that was inside it.

Fortunately for the SCSO, the shop has multiple security cameras in place which were able to capture several decent images, including one of the intruder appearing to smoke a cigarette as he made his way through the building.

They were also able to get a video image of the vehicle that the intruder drove to and from the scene — what appeared to be a white (or light-colored), two-door, Mercedes coupe.

While this may be purely coincidental, it was also reported that someone unsuccessfully attempted to break into Caparelli’s coffee stand in Osburn sometime during Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

Captain Jeff Lee with the SCSO had a brief update on Friday morning relating to multiple elements of the case.

“We do have reason to believe the Kingston burglary and Osburn (attempted) burglary are related,” Lee said. “Osburn PD is handling their investigation. We have received information the suspect vehicle related to the Kingston incident may have been stolen out of Coeur d'Alene — but that too is still being confirmed.”

It was reported that several similar incidents also occurred in McCall, Idaho, including a potential sighting of the stolen white Mercedes — however, at this time those reports remain unconfirmed.

The Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office reportedly has potential leads in the case and will continue to provide updates as the investigation progresses.

If you have any information or if anyone has video surveillance, showing the white Mercedes or possible suspect, please call the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office dispatch so it can be given to the investigating deputy, which can be reached at 208-556-1114.
