ITD fires up more I-90 projects

Road work continues to progress through Shoshone County and the surrounding areas — but several projects are set to start in the coming weeks.

The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) continues to make headway through Kellogg on the Division Street and Elizabeth Park overpasses — and is seemingly further along on the eastbound side than they were a year ago when they worked on the other side.

Commuters have probably noticed the work that began on Monday at the eastern base of Fourth of July Pass.

Just like last season, when crews worked on the eastbound side of I-90, they will be out resurfacing the westbound lanes.

“Crews will start preparing for all traffic to run on the eastbound set of lanes by adjusting striping and placing signage,” read a recent release from the Idaho Transportation Department. “During the first week of construction, drivers can expect one lane to be closed in the eastbound direction while crews are working.”

Once the work begins, all traffic will be shifted to the eastbound set of lanes with one lane of traffic being open in either direction.

Repairs are expected to start first on westbound I-90 and then transition to installing a new concrete barrier in the median to prevent head-on crashes.

The project is expected to be completed in October.

Moving back to Shoshone County, crews with ITD are set to begin a two-year project on I-90, east of the Big Creek exit.

“Over the next two years, ITD will resurface I-90 from the Big Creek Exit to West Wallace Exit,” said ITD Communications Manager Megan Jahns. “This year crews will replace concrete with asphalt between Osburn and Wallace, and next year they will work between Big Creek and Wallace. Drivers can expect one lane closure in each direction on I-90 at all times during each construction season.”
