Firefighter's union to support Snack Pak program
KELLOGG — Tickets are now available for the Fourth Annual West Shoshone County Firefighters (WSCF) Local 2034 Community Fundraiser.
The event has become a staple of the Kellogg events calendar and this year’s event looks to be among the biggest ever.
Each year the WSCF chooses a different organization to support through the fundraiser and Union secretary-treasurer Abe Hanna explained that this year they decided to raise money for the Silver Valley Snack Pak program — a group that collects and sends food home to local students in need each week to ensure that they have food over the weekend.
Recently, program organizer Christy Jacobs explained that her group currently puts together and distributes roughly 600 bags of food per month — and each bag costs between $4.50 and $5.
The program operates on word-of-mouth, donations, and some small fundraising but the $3,000 per month tab is growing increasingly more difficult to navigate.
That’s where the WSCF is coming in.
“We talked about it and decided that they would be the focus of our fundraiser this year,” Hanna said. “If you know about the program, it’s a pretty easy thing to get behind and support.”
Once again the fundraiser is going to be an all-inclusive evening at the Radio Brewing Firehall in uptown Kellogg — complete with dinner, drinks, a silent auction and live music.
However, unlike years past when tickets were sold at the door — this year they are pre-selling tickets.
“Everyone who purchases a ticket gets dinner, a beer, access to the live music, and a special commemorative pint glass,” Hanna said. “We have Sverwood for the live music, they always draw a good crowd.”
Tickets for the full dinner experience are $50. For those who just want to come and joy some drinks and music, there is a $20 entry fee.
Tickets are available for purchase from now until May 5.
Hanna also mentioned that they are still looking for items for their silent auction — for more information or to donate an item to be auctioned off, please contact the Shoshone County Fire District No. 2 station at 208-784-1188.
