KELLOGG — Snowy weather greeted skiers on the slopes at Silver Mountain Resort last Saturday during the season opening.
The Kellogg recreation spot received 10 inches of snow throughout the day and Gus Colburn, Silver Mountain’s director of marketing, said some skiers lined up bright and early to mark the first day and be the first in line on the lift.
“As we got more snow, we were able to open more throughout the day. It was powder on powder, and a lot of people were out there to enjoy the terrain. People were chomping at the bit to get out and enjoy the slopes and there was a lot of hooting and hollering from people on the chair lifts. It was a really good day to kick off the 2023/2024 season,” Colburn said.
Snow preservation tactics were employed when the snowy conditions gave way to the warmer weather we experienced earlier this week. The snow groomers were taken onto the slopes to pack the bountiful snowfall down to make it last until the temperature dropped back to freezing.
“The snow survived pretty good, and we’ve got more on the way,” Colburn said.
The terrain park has two lines for those getting acclimated to test their skills and this season, a sun deck was added to chair four to offer a spot for people to hang out and recharge during their trip to the slopes.
Currently, only the tubing hill and beginner run are definitely set to open today, but skiing may open up as snow conditions change heading into the weekend.
